You read it right; UC Berkley which has been coursecasting since early 2006 is currently offering 59 full courses as podcasts over the iTunes. UC Berkeley, being a public university has a tradition of openness and thus embraced the latest trend in educational innovation.
But of course, the free courses they offered will not give you any degree or credit, non-students will just be benefited by the free knowledge while UC Berkeley students who paid for the courses have the advantage of hearing the lectures and supplement their learning anywhere they are.
The free and complete lectures of courses that include Arts and Humanities, Biology, Chemistry, Information Sciences, Natural Resources and Social Sciences can be accessed fully by anybody whether you are not a student or an alumnus of the university. The podcast courses title and their RSS feeds can be found here.

So if you are looking for quality podcasts that are of educational value or podcasts that could help you intellectually, me too will suggest browsing over Open Culture because the podcasts listed here are sifted and screened by Dan Colman, the Associate Dean & Director of Stanford’s Continuing Studies Program. Experience Harvard Education Through iTunes | Podcast Fresh // Feb 10, 2007 at 11:43 pm
[…] Many of us consider Harvard as our dream university or would like to study in Harvard if given a choice. But did you know that you can now have a virtual taste of Harvard via iTunes? The Harvard Extension School announced the availability of the video previews of their 15 education courses like computer science, management, environmental science, history, and the liberal arts. The general public can access and preview those courses at no cost. And just like any podcast, you can download the complete two-hour introductory lectures of the above courses and subscribe to the podcast releases of Harvard because they will continue to add more video and audio content as it becomes available. However, since the offer of Harvard is merely a preview and not the usual free podcasts being offered by other universities which are part of their online learning programs, it is really inevitable to think that the video previews are simply promotional podcasts. It appeared to be more on business purposes rather than public service. (http://www.oculture.com/weblog/2007/01/harvard_now_on_.html) as compared with the podcast offering of UC Berkley (http://www.podcastfresh.com/2007/01/uc-berkley-offers-free-courses-via-podcasts/) or the free online courses of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Anyway, Harvard may be just testing the water and we just hope that they will be offering more substantial and practical educational podcasts in the future.Technorati tags: Podcast, Educational Podcast, Promotional Podcast, Harvard, Harvard Extension School, UC Berkley, MIT […]
