FeedBurner, the most popular business tool in media distribution and the highly preferred distribution tool of podcasters and bloggers gets the attention of the industry with the breaking news that it will be bought by Google for a whopping $100 million.
It has been revealed that $100 million acquisition is all cash and mostly upfront but FeedBurner founders will be locked in for a couple of years. (http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/05/23/100-million-payday-for-feedburner-this-deal-is-confirmed/) The formality of the purchase agreement will be completed in 2 to 3 weeks.
This is big news but not really surprising as Google really tends to buy those companies whom they anticipate of being capable of dominating a particular service like RSS distribution. FeedBurner has a great product/service and a big statistics of faithful users.
A report from Nielsen/NetRatings even said that FeedBurner is growing faster than MySpace and Digg in terms of traffic growth which I think has something to do with the expanding market in podcast and blogs. And FeedBurner is exceptionally popular because they can efficiently serve that demand for media distribution. Let’s just hope that FeedBurner will be as twice as great now that they will be part of Google empire.
